Cost: R2500
The aim of this one on one course is to introduce you to the process of black and white analogue print making while teaching you the fundamentals that will enable you to make your own hand prints.
We will begin with a tour of the darkroom and an introduction to the enlargers, tray development process and chemicals. We will then make a contact sheet while exploring each of the variables associated with black and white hand printing.
After a coffee / lunch break we will make full prints. The goal by the end of the day is to make two / three prints, with you working independently on the last print.
You will need to bring shot and processed black and white negatives. Everything needed to make a contact sheet and prints will be provided.
This course includes a follow-up day where you'd get access to the darkroom to print on your own (with technical assistance from our darkroom facilitator if needed), solidifying your knowledge. This should happen in the days following your course and for this you'll need to buy your own paper.
One should leave the course feeling ready and confident to build this unique process into your own photographic practice.
If interested, you may request to start the course in the lab - briefly looking at our scanning process.
