The aim of this course is to introduce you to the black and white darkroom with a focus on film development and an introduction to analogue print making.
We will begin with a tour of the darkroom and an introduction to the tanks, enlargers, tray development process and chemicals.
You will learn how to process black and white film, looking at all the steps, tools, tricks and chemicals involved.
While your film is drying we will break for coffee / lunch.
Once dry we will scan and sleeve your film, briefly looking at the different scanners and the processes in the lab. We will then make a contact sheet with your negatives while exploring each of the variables associated with black and white hand printing.
You will need to bring a shot and unprocessed roll of black and white film. Everything needed to develop your film and make a contact sheet will be provided.
If there's time we will briefly explore the process of enlarging a negative.
